Spring Time – A poem by Ana Bright

April 9, 2009 by meeagain

It has indeed been a really long time since I wrote! So long that I almost forgot my password to log in to by blog!! No time to think up stuff to write I guess.(or it could be poor time management, although I prefer to think that I am super busy!!:-) ) Anyways, here I am. Back again but with one more proxy post from Ana Bright- a poem dedicated to welcoming the elusive spring.

Here goes…

The windows aren’t gloomy,

not anymore.

The flowers are blooming,

just outside the door.

Everyone is outside

laughing with glee,

all children on the playground,

including me!

I hope this lovely weather

will come and stay!

oh winter, please, winter,

just go away!

We need a little happiness

to cover up this mess,

because the rough storms of winter

have caused much distress!

Desperate Housewives!!

January 28, 2009 by meeagain

Am I one?!! The answer to this question is what i dread the most! First off ,I hate the term house wife!(Sounds a lot like trophy wife!!). Ya, nobody uses that term any more, the sugar coated,”home maker” has replaced it. Does that make the desperation go away?!! In my opinion,(and I can say this safely as it is aso directed at me!), “home makers” have a lot of time to be desperate! Having been on both ends of the scale I have discovered that I was more productive and proactive when I was juggling work and home and family. I always seemed to fin time to clean, cook, chauffer the kids around. True, I would feel extremely tired at the end of the day but when I hit the bed I get the well earned sleep.

Now that I have been on a break for a while, believe it or not, i feel tired a the time. The max amount of work around the house is not for more than an hour and I seem to be busy all the time!!(doing what, even I don’t know!!). I tend to go into a cocoon that prevents me from looking to see what is outside it. Am I bordering on depression or is it the rude wake up call in my mind?!!

What I say here is probably true of most “house wives”. People say that it is a lot of work, being a home maker. That is probably true of a handful of them but I can boldly say that the majority of us just waste our time for the most part of the day. I don’t mean to say that the only other alternative os to go to work, find a job and all that. There are so many nice ways of spending the day in an enlightening and enjoyable manner. We could persue some long lost interest. ( I am probably thinking aloud here!) So ultimately I have come to the conclusion that I could do so many things while I was working because I had no choice and necessity became the mother of invention. So I think that I should pretend that if I didn’t do a certain thing at a certain time, there is no other time to complete the task and then see what I can do with all the free time I get…….. Maybe I can catch the show!!

My Journal is an invaluable friend,

It is more than just the end

of keeping my thoughts inside my head

and so, on these pages i let them spread.

And in the pages of this book,

My ideas are there if you dare to look.

So look and see, if you care

but….. BEWARE………!

REUNION!!!!!!

December 4, 2008 by meeagain

The much anticipated Reunion, finally took place! It involved a lot of planning and co-ordination over the past 4 months! I think that it was smooth sailing after the initial hiccups. It was wonderful to meet everyone. Wednesday was like a preview to the actual where most of my cousins got together at one cousin’s place and drove to the Smoky Mountain. The drive was very scenic and the music accented the mood! We carried a huge amount of grocery as the plan was to cook and eat at the log cabin that we had booked for the 4 days that we were there. Though the cooking and cleaning was a lot of work, it was fun as all of us shared the chores. The stories we had heard about bears knocking on the door in the middle of the night were scary but they sound silly now, sitting here and thinking about them. All of us hardly ever slept. We stayed up almost every night until 3 – 4 AM laughing about the silly things we did in our childhood and ended up losing our voices. All the crazy things that we did, that we would never normally do like doing weird dance steps and breaking into a song in the middle of the road just reassured us that in our hearts we are still the little kids that met up over the summer vacations! Our ever enthusiastic aunt provided us with delicious hot vadais that complimented the cold weather and the snug cabin. We missed the others who couldn’t be with us. One day, I hope it is possible for the whole family to meet at one place but for now I feel so happy and lucky to have met many of the family members. Thanks for making the effort, everyone!

Duryodhana -Neenga Nallavara Kettavara?!

November 9, 2008 by meeagain

I am a huge fan of the Mahabharata- what an amazing epic! There is nothing one cannot find the answer to in this beautiful creation. Depicting even Gods as people with emotions, it brings out the various qualities of human nature. There is not just black or white among the characters but a lot of gray.

One of the characters that intrigue me is Duryodhana. Duryodhana is supposed to have stolen the kingdom from Pandavas. That is true but according to the rules of those days, I would think he was the rightful heir as his father was the eldest son of the king. True, Dhritarashtra was blind and he gave up the right to his younger brother Pandu. sometimes I think that it is not Duryodhana’s fault if his father was unfit to rule the kingdom. He was surrounded by people who had their own agenda. Like Shakuni, his uncle whose main goal was to take revenge of Bheeshma who forced his sister Gandhari’s hand in marriage to the blind Dhritarashtra and Dhritarashtra, his father who secretly cursed himself for being born blind and therefore not being in a position to inherit the throne. It is a classic case of the father trying to live his dreams through the son. We tend to forget the good points in him. He was a capable and just ruler. His subjects were happy under his rule. He was a great friend. When everyone including the Pandavas,Bheeshma, Drona and all the other respected people of the kingdom made fun of Karna’s low birth (actually they didn’t know that Kunti was his mother!) and did not let him compete in the archery contest, Duryodhana was the one that came forward to give Karna the status to allow him in participating. It didn’t matter to him what Karna’s caste was! There may be an arguement that he insulted Draupadi. When he visited the Pandavas in their castle built by Maya, the mystical architect, he fell into the water that had the illusion of hard floor and Draupadi laughed at him spitefully in front of of everyone present and he wanted to pay her back for her insult. This makes me think that if she had not laughed at him he would have left her alone.

Another virtue to his credit his trust in his friends and relatives. There is a story in which Karna plays a board game with Duryodhana’s wife in his private chambers and accidentally tugs at her pearl necklace that breaks and the pearls fall down and duryodhana enters at the exact same moment when this happens. While one would think that he would be angry at Karna and his own wife, he merely picks up the pearls and asks her if he could mend it for her. It is amazing the trust he had on both of them in a society which was narrow minded!

Duryodhana may have fought for the wrong cause but he sure had a great personality! It has hard to decide whether he was a good or a bad person!

I read D’s list of favorite duets. I was a little sad that I didn’t know many of the songs, particularly the new ones but a lot of the ones I recognize I like. Anyway, as I have been tagged, I will try to make a listof 15 on the spot .(quite a difficult task)! These are not necessarily in the order of preference but random.

  1. Uyirile – Vettayaadu Vilayadu
  2. Endhan nenjil neengatha – Kaliangnan
  3. Suttum Vizhi Chudare – Ghajini
  4. Munbe Vaa – Jillunu Oru Kadhal
  5. Kadhal Oviyum – Alaligal oyvathilai
  6. Ninaivo oru paravai – sigappu rojakkal
  7. Senyore – Kannathil mutham ittal (is that considered a duet?!)
  8. Thee kuruviyil – Kanngalaal Kaidi sei
  9. Poomalaye – pagal Nilavu
  10. Oru Kadhal Devathai – Idhaya Tamarai
  11. Mudhal naal indru – Unnale Unnale
